How to choose golf clubs?
Golf is becoming a familiar sport all over the world and yet most people are still startled as to why most golfers get addicted to golf. Spectators who have not experienced a round of golf are clueless as to why many people, particularly those who belong to the PGA, get hooked with the sports. Even kids are smitten with golf that they nag their parents about buying kids golf clubs. Ladies are no exception.
This sport is not really new, having been played years ago but with the use of crudely made equipment. In the olden days, those who play golf made their club by carving them out of wood. It was only later when crafted golf clubs were made by skilled artisans.
During those times, golf clubs were very expensive so only a few were capable of owning them. This may be the reason why golf as we know the sports today, is identified with the rich and the famous. Craftsmen experimented on a lot of primitive and modern materials before they found the right material for golf clubs.
Thanks to the discovery of the casting technique in 1963, golf clubs became easier to make and more affordable to most people. Those who can afford to buy hand-made golf clubs however preferred to use them because they felt they had more control with the club. With the passage of time, antique clubs have become more expensive and were bought not for practical usage but for collection purposes.
The longest gold clubs are known as woods and they are specifically used for long distance hitting targets. Of all the golf clubs, the woods are said to have the biggest head mainly because it is expected to send golf balls to long distances with a single swing of the club. The biggest of the woods is called a driver.
Irons on the other hand, can be used for long distance or short distance hitting. Putters are used for short distances, specifically to roll a golf ball into the cup.
There may be different types of clubs but all of them have three basic components. Even kids gold clubs should follow the basic components of a club. These are the head or that part which gets in contact with the ball, the shaft or that part connecting the grip and the club head and the grip or the part which is held by the golfer.
While there are varying golf clubs, you will find similarities because all of the golf clubs whether used for practice or for tournament purposes have to conform to the standards set by either the United States Golf Association or the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of Saint Andrews.
While the type of club used can influence a game of golf, most golfers still believe that the quality of any round of golf still resides on the capability and the strength of the golfer. You may have the best and the most expensive clubs in the world but still lose the game if you are not a seasoned golfer.
Golf clubs can be very expensive and a beginner should think twice before purchasing a complete set of clubs. A new golfer, particualry ladies who may think that having their own set of expensive golf club is a must, should get the advice of friends who have been there and are already seasoned golfers before deciding on what clubs to purchase.
If you are a newbie, there is a great chance that you may not like the sports at all, so it is better to get a less expensive club. There is no need to buy all the types of clubs, a few not so expensive clubs and golf balls will do. The money you save on golf clubs can be used to pay for golfing instructions.
If you have been playing golf for a long time and would like to upgrade your clubs then go ahead, choose a set of gold clubs that will suit your need. No matter what the cost is, if it will help make your game better, then go for it!
